After coming out of nowhere with the huge hit "Best I Ever Had" from the mixtape So Far Gone, Drake has been talking a lot about his debut full length. The album, Thank Me Later, is slated for a February 2010 release. Thank Me Later will feature guest spots from Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy and Jay-Z, and—if Drake has his way—Sade as well. "Shut It Down" and "Fireworks" are two tracks that are said to be on the album's final cut. "The best part about So Far Gone was that I didn't focus on structure. The only thing that was consistent was the story and the emotion. That's what I want to do with this album," said Drake. "I make music for people to get lost in it, so, as long as it takes you somewhere, then I've succeeded." One of the producers on the album is Harlem-based producer Omen. But Omen's working relationship with Drake started years before this track came into fruition. Omen, an up-and-coming producer then, met Drake's longtime collaborator, 40, in Toronto back in 2003 while working on Canadian artist Jellystone's album. A few years later, during another visit to Canada, Omen was introduced to a new artist 40 was working with named Drake. "He told me he needed my insight on Drake's direction," says Omen. "I heard Drake, and immediately thought, 'this kid is crazy!'" Although Omen couldn't reveal any more details on Thank Me Later, he did say it will be the equivalent to "'So Far Gone on steroids," which is Drake's mixtape that propelled him to superstardom and a record deal with Universal Motown via Young Money Records earlier this year. He also says him and 40 will be doing a lot of the production on the album collectively and currently have a couple of more records in the works. Follow us on www.twitter.com/rappages |
